Corrie's Katie McGlynn looking for love as she returns to TV after character's death

Katie McGlynn is back on TV this week in her first role since Coronation Street – but she’s a long way from finding love.

The 27-year-old, who played Sinead Tinker in the soap, says she is “10,000% single” and doesn’t trust dating apps “which doesn’t help”.

In a Q&A on Instagram the actress, who is joining former Corrie co-star Kym Marsh in series four of lottery drama The Syndicate, said: “ I haven’t found the right person. And I don’t see the point in wasting time with the wrong one.”

But when Cupid strikes, the first date will be a low-key affair.

“I’m a simple gal,” Katie told fans on Instagram. “I love the outdoors so a pretty walk and picnic would be nice #cringe.”

Katie left Corrie in October 2019 following a heartbreaking storyline.

Her character Sinead died of cervical cancer, leaving behind her husband Daniel and young son, Bertie. Katie won a National Television Award for the role.

The actress says joining the cast of The Syndicate – which also stars Gaynor Faye and Neil Morrissey – was a no-brainer after she “fell in love” with the first series of the show.

“It’s really good at representing working-class Northern life”, said Katie, who plays “rough around the edges” Georgina Clarke.

But apart from her working-class roots, the Rochdale lass has little in common with the single mum. “She’s manipulative,” Katie says, “but has a redeeming feature. She really does care about her daughter.”

Being on set under Covid rules was “bizarre”, she says, adding: “I was screaming behind my mask, thinking, ‘I’d love to go and give people a hug’.”

Now the show is ready to air though, she is “really happy we managed to do it”.

* The Syndicate starts on BBC One on Tuesday at 9pm.
