Corrie's Jack P Shepherd hopes villain Ray Crosby will stick around after sinkhole chaos

Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt, has revealed he hopes the new villain on the cobbles Ray Crosby will stick around.

He also teased what is in store for the soap's 60th anniversary special, with the Platt family involved in a "community story with Ray".

Ray is currently plotting against David for reasons yet unknown, having paid for a sinkhole to be opened in David's garden.

In upcoming scenes his sinister motives will become clearer as he attempts to persuade David to sell his house.

But off-screen, David gets on very well with Ray actor Mark Frost, and hopes his character won't be axed any time soon.

Asked whether viewers could end up seeing David and Ray go head to head, Jack replied: "We'll have to see what happens.

"I've had a few scenes with Mark Frost already. I really like the guy – he's really nice.

"I hope he sticks around for a bit and it's not the end of his character, whatever they decide to do.

"I've loved working with him so far."

He also gushed about his excitement to be involved in the anniversary episode, having revealed previously he was only supposed to be on the show for three months initially, but ended up staying for 20 years.

"It's always great for me to be involved with the anniversary stories, including the live episodes that we've done in the past," he said.

"I think David also turns 30 this Christmas as well, so that's another anniversary for him!

"To be part of the 60th anniversary is great – whatever they've got in store. Although I don't know what they've got in store, actually!

"I think it's a combination of storylines, from what I've been told.
"But the Platts are at the heart of a 'community' story with Ray."
