Corrie's Jack P Shepherd hit with fine by ITV bosses for hair transplant plugs

Corrie bosses gave star Jack P Shepherd the hairdryer treatment and fined him “a couple of thousand” for plugging his transplant clinic.

The actor, David Platt in the ITV soap, got a warning after breaking strict advertising rules.

Bosses were furious when the 31-year-old – who is on £250,000 a year – released a video gushing about the hair transplant procedure he had at a Manchester clinic.

It was the second time in a year he had plugged the treatment.

A source said: “Jack got a real dressing down and was told not to repeat his behaviour. It was a very serious breach and he was left in no uncertain terms that he had overstepped the mark.

"He was told he was being fined and the figure was a couple of thousand pounds.”

Bosses are forever warning the Corrie cast about plugging products and services on social media, according to insiders.

In the past, they said it was as much to protect young stars as the iconic brand. The same rules stop stars taking on paid advertising work and limit them to personal appearances to make extra cash.

But the move has frustrated the cast – especially younger stars.

Dad-of-three Jack had 3,000 hairs implanted into his scalp after suffering dramatic hair loss. Last week, he took to Instagram to share before and after snaps.

He said: “I decided to get it done as it was affecting my mental health to the point where I considered giving up acting.”

He added thank-yous to Crown Clinic – where Dr Christian Jessen and Calum Best have been treated and ­procedures start at £5,000.

Jack said soon after the op: “It is such a common thing for guys now – like a male version of the boob job. One of my mates had a transplant and looked so much better I didn’t recognise him.”

Jack – whose male rape storyline is about to reignite when co-star Ryan Clayton returns– is not the first Corrie star to get a transplant.

Pal Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone Dobbs, had one in 2016.

The cast were first warned off plugging products in 2013 after Brooke Vincent and Cath Tyldesley were caught in a Channel 4 sting.

They accepted free “anti-ageing” skin toner and “energising bracelets” and told fans how good they were – but the brand was a front for a Dispatches programme.

A Corrie spokesman said: “We don’t discuss contractual matters.”
