Corrie's Evelyn leaves fans in stitches as they spot unintentional Friends crossover

Coronation Street's Evelyn Plummer has been a hit among viewers' since she arrived in Weatherfield.

The matriarchal character, played by Maureen Lipman, first appeared back in 2018 as the potential maternal grandmother of Tyrone Dobbs.

But in no time she was living with Tyrone, Fiz Stap and their daughters at No.9 after she was evicted from her home.

While still a tough nut to crack, Corrie viewers have seen a glimpse of a more mellow, loving Evelyn in recent weeks after she stuck by Fiz and the girls' after Tyrone left for a new life with younger girlfriend Alina Pop.

And Evelyn is no stranger to a one-liner and her latest left fans in stitches - with some even spotting a Friends crossover.

With Fiz off out on another date with Phil, and Tyrone busy tending to pregnant Alina, Evelyn has spent more and more time looking after Ruby and Hope.

But she's not afraid to say how she feels and the latest line to make fans laugh was: "I'd love to but... I don't want to."

As ever though, she still ends up on babysitting duties.

Corrie, however, loved her comeback so much they shared it to Instagram with the caption: "When you get asked to look after some else's kids ...."

And fans loved it.

"Brilliant character played by a brilliant actor!" one praised.

Another said: "omg evelyn is a legend."

"Evelyn IS Coronation Street," a third declared.

A fourth added: "Love it shes hilarious."

Others, however, noticed something familiar about it and credited to the line to Phoebe Buffay from hit American sitcom Friends.

"Sorry but Phoebe said it first #friendstvshow," one said.

Another commented: "She’s been watching Friends!!! 'Oh I wish I could, but I don’t want to!' -Phoebe."

That wasn't the only line that got people laughing either.

"Evelyn telling them to shut their cake holes has just made my night, not heard that expression for years #Corrie," one tweeted.

Another said: "Shut your cake holes haha good one Evelyn. #Corrie."
