Corrie's Emma Brooker's exit plot 'sealed' in 'prison twist' as actress quits

Coronation Street viewers are predicting a prison twist for Emma Brooker, as it's been confirmed she will soon leave the ITV soap.

Alexandra Mardell, who plays Emma, has quit Corrie after four years in the role.

It comes at a time that Emma is caught up in a life-changing new storyline, following an accident that caused the death of an elderly man named Ted.

It's hinted Emma's involvement in the storyline, alongside Faye Windass, will lead to her departing the ITV soap.

Now, fans have speculated the character could be sent to prison for Ted's death, after it was confirmed his cause of death had raised suspicions with police.

Found dead in his flat, Ted’s post mortem suggested he was run over, and that this might have triggered the blood clot that killed him.

The police were keen to talk to anyone who witnessed or caused the accident, with Faye ending up confessing she was the driver to boyfriend Craig Tinker.

While the secret remains just that for now, fans can't help but feel Emma might be sent down for the crime.

Taking to Twitter following the news of the looming exit, fans speculated it was all linked to Ted's death.

One fan said: "So Emma goes to prison and is then written out at least temporarily..."

Another tweeted: "Tbh I’m glad coz the storylines she was [given] were terrible I’m sure she will be great in what ever she does next!!

"I wonder will Emma go to prison for what happened to the old fella coz I can’t see her going on the run!!"

Alexandra, who plays Steve McDonald's daughter, will film her exit scenes later this month and will officially leave in April.

Corrie boss Iain MacLeod told The Mirror: "Emma has found herself in a massive pickle — one which will cause her to wave goodbye to the cobbles. At least for now.

"Alexandra has been pure Corrie gold and I wish her all the best."

Alexandra shared a statement on social media, confirming it might not be the end for the much-loved character.

She said: "Playing Emma, on the most iconic street there is, has been the best experience of my life. Four years have gone so fast.

"Compared to other cast members I still feel like a newbie which makes my decision to leave all the more difficult. But now is the right time as a number of exciting opportunities beckon. Although who knows maybe the street hasn't seen the last of Emma Brooker.

"I can't thank Coronation Street enough for welcoming me and trusting me to tell so many wonderful and heartfelt stories. And of course for the friendships and the amazing fans. When I see pink I will always think of Emma."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
