Corrie's distraught Leanne agrees to let tragic son Oliver die ahead of final scenes

Coronation Street aired difficult scenes on Wednesday night, as Leanne continued to fight to save her young son Oliver.

Oliver, three, was diagnosed with mitochondrial disease earlier this year, with his worried parents Leanne and Steve McDonald soon learning his condition was incurable, and life limiting.

After a series of seizures, Oliver was left on a ventilator in hospital, unable to breathe for himself.

His parents continued to fight for his survival, after the hospital informed them there was nothing more they could do.

This week saw Leanne's loved ones beg her to realise that it was best for Oliver for them to let him go, and relieve him of any suffering.

But Leanne lashed out and refused to "give up" on her son - believing there must be something that could save him.

Oliver's condition had deteriorated to the point there was nothing that could treat him or save him, with dad Steve agreeing to stop fighting the hospital.

On Wednesday, Leanne continued her fight but was soon alarmed when Oliver took a turn for the worse.

Steve begged her to see sense, after she barricaded herself in at the solicitor's office with Imran.

When she headed to the hospital, she realised there was nothing else she could do for her boy.

Leanne told her loved ones she was dropping the appeal against the hospital, and would allow Oliver to die with dignity.

Leanne and Steve knew Oliver was suffering, and that the time had come to let him go.

Emotional scenes on Friday will see little Oliver pass away, with his parents by his side.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
