Corrie's Cherylee Houston 'to return next week' after self-isolating for 10 months

Coronation Street star Cherylee Houston is reportedly set to return to the ITV soap next week after almost a year in self-isolation.

The actress, 46, who has played Izzy Armstrong since 2010, has been shielding at home for 10 months as she suffers with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome - a rare connective tissue disorder.

Due to the disorder, Cherylee is high-risk to catching the coronavirus and has had to delay her return to the soap - which she told fans on Twitter in February.

"A little while yet I'm afraid," she told her followers as they begged to know about her return.

But according to The Sun, she is due to make her huge comeback next week.

Some Corrie viewers have previously questioned whether she has left the soap for good, but it's reported she will be back.

Cherylee was first diagnosed with her condition at 23 and she is wheelchair bound.

Coronation Street was pulled off air for a short while last year at the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

But filming started again towards the end of 2020 and things seem to be getting back on track.

However actors with underlying health conditions are yet to make their return.

Ken Barlow actor William Roche has been given a break from the soap by producers, after testing positive for Covid-19.

In a statement, ITV said: "Following recent reports about his health, William Roache has asked us to clarify that he took time off work after testing positive for Covid.

"He has recovered well and is looking forward to returning to the cobbles as soon as possible."

The Mirror has contacted ITV for comment.
