Corrie's Charlie de Melo hailed "legend" as he dons rainbow kilt for Gay Village Xmas lights event

Coronation Street star Charlie de Melo had just the right outfit to wear as he headed to turn on Christmas lights with his soap co-stars at a Gay Village institution at the weekend.

For Charlie impressed friends and fans with his rather fabulous rainbow coloured kilt as he joined his Corrie co-stars for the annual switch-on event at the Village's legendary New York New York bar.

Jauntily carrying a festive candy cane and striking a pose, Charlie endeared himself to fans with his sweet festive message too.

For Charlie captioned his image saying: "Last night for the turning on of the Christmas lights @Newyorknewyorkbarmcr.

"As if that place couldn't get any brighter."

And Charlie's photo in his rainbow skirt and sporran brightened up plenty of other people's day too - judging from the comments.

Instagram follower @dirtyfacedolly said: "YES CHARLIE LEGEND", while @phxbeau57 said: "I want a Charlie for Christmas".

Another, @nancyhovhanesian said simply "Outstanding" while @suzyforrest6 said: "Suits you sir".

Actor Charlie has won an army of fans playing Corrie's suave solicitor Imran Habeeb since November 2017.

He was joined in the Gay Village by a host of his cast-mates and Corrie pals for the annual lights switch-on at New York New York on Bloom Street.

That included Dolly-Rose Campbell who plays Gemma Winter, Alexandra Mardell who plays Emma Brooker, Daniel Brocklebank who plays Billy Mayhew and Rob Mallard who plays Daniel Osbourne.

And it looks like cast had a fun festive night, posing up with a host of large Christmassy props like a giant gingerbread man, sweets and tinsel.
