Corrie's Daniel Brocklebank jokes about lockdown decline with epic beard transformation

With gyms closed, barbers shuttered and nothing to do but eat, many of us are avoiding the mirror.

But Daniel Brocklebank, better know as Coronation Street's vicar Billy Mayhew, has found the humour in his changing reflection.

Sharing a picture of himself a year back, against one of him this month he wrote on Instagram: "An actual depiction of my decline during lockdown."

The first shot from February 2020 showed him clean shaven with neatly trimmed brown hair.

He looked to be a different man in the second image, taken this month.

Giving a thumbs up to the camera, Daniel has a full beard and messy grown-out haircut, both generously streaked with grey.

The 41-year-old has been open with fans about struggling at times during the pandemic.

He wrote last month about finding it "tough", explaining on Twitter: "January can be bleak at the best of times.

"But this year especially I know so many of us are finding it tough."

He asked fans to check in with those close to them.

And on December 31, Daniel finished 2020 by sharing his wish for the year ahead.

He said: "I truly hope we are free to live our lives soon. I hope that we can take back normality & see & hug & laugh with our friends & family, face to face."

Shakespeare In Love actor Daniel has played reformed criminal-turned-vicar Billy Mayhew since 2014 and on Wednesday got back to work on the cobbles, after a coronavirus outbreak delayed filming.

Daniel, also seen in The Hours, told fans: "First day back at work this year! It’s so so amazing to be back @coronationstreet & being able to see each other.

"Even it is masked & at a distance.

"Plus a nice pile of scripts waiting for me... lots of exiting things coming up!!"
