Corrie's Antony Cotton confirms he will remain on soap until 2022 after signing new deal

Antony Cotton has signed a new deal on Coronation Street.

The actor - who plays Sean Tully on the ITV soap - has confirmed he will remain on screens until 2022 after securing a new contract with show bosses.

He feels "very lucky" to be in a job and was only happy to sign a new contract with the ITV soap.

"I have just signed a new contract. I’ve always said that if they’re happy for me to be there, then I’m happy to be there. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it," he told the Daily Star on Sunday.

"I feel that even more nowadays because some work is thin on the ground. I am very lucky to be in a job."

Antony says the whole cast and crew of Corrie is like a "family" to him and has been so for the past 18 years.

He added: "Corrie is like a giant family. It feels nice to go to work with people that you know and love. I’ve known a lot of them for the past 18 years. I adore people there like they’re my own family.

"For the past 19 years, I’ve never wanted to say goodbye to that."

He also vowed there will be a huge storyline for him soon and he is looking forward to "doing it properly" now coronavirus -1>coronavirus restrictions are starting to ease.

"There are stories that we tried to do, but in the end we couldn’t because of the pandemic. So now they will happen over the next year," he shared.

"I have a very big, dramatic storyline that I am hoping we can now pick up and do properly. We are getting back into the swing of things now, so I am looking forward to the next year.

"I am hoping 12 months from now things will be completely back to normal."

Corrie has seen some devastatingly sad storylines as of late after fan favourite Johnny Connor (Richard Hawley) died in tragic scenes as he tried to save his ex Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) from death when she fell down the sinkhole whilst searching for Leo.

Richard said: "He [Iain, the show's producer] explained that the death in the big stunt was going to be Johnny, he outlined the story to me and I was absolutely overjoyed and knocked back by what he was planning."
