Corrie's Alan Halsall tricks fans into thinking he's having a baby with girlfriend Tisha Merry

Coronation Street star Alan Halsall teased fans with some 'exciting news' on Saturday night, but it wasn't what they were hoping for.

The Corrie actor sent followers on Instagram into a frenzy when he said he had something to share and posted a scan photo.

He teased: "Well, here goes ... some exciting news for you all!

"It’s come as a bit of a shock but now’s the time to share.

"Totally unexpected and we’ve not told anyone, didn’t want to shout it to the world at first until it was confirmed. We can now share this wonderful news with you all and we’re very proud to announce."

Fans thought he was going to announce that he and his girlfriend and former co-star Tisha Merry were having a baby.

But he poured cold water over their excitement by adding: "This is a scan of my liver in perfect condition, ready for when the pubs re-open."

Briony Aston, who is expecting her first baby with Alan's co-star Sam Aston who plays Chesney Brown, admitted she was tricked.

"I literally just screamed down the stairs to Sam just now," Sam's wife told him.

"Omg" said Samia Longchambon, who plays Maria Connor in Corrie, with laughing emojis.

"Always read till the end," said another follower.

"That was really mean. Did you know how happy I felt then!" another fan scolded.

And another told him: "Alan, you had me going there!! I was shaking with excitement, I thought it was the patter of tiny feet. You are such a teaser!"

Alan, who has a six-year-old daughter Sienna with his ex wife Lucy-Jo Hudson, and Tisha confirmed their relationship in May last year at Sam and Briony's wedding.

They moved in together later in the year.

In February Alan's ex Lucy-Jo, who played Katy Harris in Corrie, welcomed a baby boy with her partner Lewis Devine.

The couple started dating following her separation from Alan in 2018.

Alan, who plays Tyrone Dobbs in the soap, surprised Tisha, who played waitress Steph Britton, on her 27th birthday by performing a rendition of Happy Birthday for her on the saxophone.

Tisha walked down the stairs and asked 'can I come in?'

And as she opened the lounge door romantic Alan began to play.
