Corrie's Adam Barlow actor teases show exit as he talks 'tough' new storyline

Coronation Street actor Sam Robertson has teased upcoming scenes could lead to an exit for his character Adam Barlow, after a betrayal.

Adam will struggle with his mental health in looming scenes on the ITV soap, as part of a "tough" new storyline.

The character is still reeling over the fact his wife Sarah Platt had cheated on him with his client Damon Hay, and now she is pregnant.

Sarah doesn't know if Adam or Damon is the father of her baby, and next week she races to the hospital after suffering bleeding.

Fearing she could be losing the baby, she heads for a scan with Adam by her side - while he is still in turmoil over recent events.

Towards the end of the week, Adam ends up suffering a major panic attack while at work as everything takes its toll on him.

Speaking about what's ahead for Adam, actor Sam teased his character might not be able to stay on the street if the baby turns out to be Damon's and not his.

He also spoke of the "tough" mental health storyline, and revealed how Adam was feeling.

Sam said: "It's tough and it's challenging to play out but it's important to show how stress can get on top of anyone. It's a tough time for Adam - he's fighting off issues left, right and centre."

On the surprise over his struggles, he went on: "I think so. He's overwhelmed by the stress of it all and it suddenly catches up with him at work.

"Everything just seems to be imploding but he's his own boss, he knows he can't just check out and have a week off to get his head straight, but he's struggling to work through it."

On whether the scenes could lead to the end of Sarah and Adam's marriage, and an exit, he revealed what might happen if Adam is not the baby's father.

He teased: "I think he would find it too hard and that could be the end.

"If he sees Sarah living on the street, walking around with a baby, that's going to be tough. He's been a good stepdad to Harry but that's a different set of circumstances."

Viewers will have to tune in to find out if the couple can get past recent events.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
