Corrie producer explains subtle colour usage during ITV soap’s emotional storyline

  • Coronation Street is set to feature the colour purple in an upcoming episode to symbolise domestic violence awareness.
  • The ITV soap is currently portraying Todd Grimshaw's experience of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of his partner, Theo Silverton.
  • In the forthcoming instalment, Grimshaw will report Silverton to the police following a severe beating, with other Weatherfield residents also wearing purple attire or accessories.
  • The use of purple, which signifies peace, courage, and survival, aims to visually represent the widespread reality of how many individuals are impacted by domestic violence.
  • The show consulted with LGBTQ+ anti-abuse charity Galop and Manchester Women’s Aid to ensure the storyline was told accurately and sensitively.
