Corrie pictures reveal horror moment character is stabbed in Maria Connor murder plot

Coronation Street airs terrifying scenes this week, as Alya Nazir is stabbed while trying to save Maria Connor from a murder plot.

A knifeman tries to kill Maria at an event she has helped organise to highlight the Weatherfield refugee drop-in centre.

As the ITV soap's far-right extremism storyline reaches a horrifying climax, one teen called Blake decides to live steam an attack at the event.

Brandishing a knife, he prepares to murder councillor Maria as part of his campaign only for Alya to get stabbed as she attempts to stop the attack.

Max Turner, who was recently groomed by a racist group led by Griff, tries to stop the incident unfolding after coming across Blake's online video.

But Maria's partner Gary Windass blocks him from entering the venue after recent events, despite Max also trying to stop Griff and his group's recent bomb threat.

Still unforgiven by residents, Max pleads with Gary in a warning about the knifeman only for it all to be too late.

Blake is already in the building and soon sets out his intentions, before charging at Maria with a knife in his hand.

As he vows to kill Maria, a horrified Alya sees and races over to stop the knifeman and save her friend.

Alya and Blake get caught up in a struggle, leading to Blake stabbing her and leaving her fighting for her life.

Pictures show the dramatic moment Alya is attacked, before Blake is grabbed and pulled to the ground as residents rush to disarm him.

As the guests at the event flee for their lives, Alya is rushed to hospital for a life saving operation.

The attack marks the climax of the soap's extremism storyline which has highlighted the grooming of disenfranchised and impressionable young men.

In a shocking twist, Max is arrested this week in the fallout as Blake makes it clear that it was Max’s videos that inspired him to carry out the shocking attack.

Max will try to come to terms with the consequences of his actions. He attempts to explain his involvement with the group to David and the police, as he faces a lengthy jail sentence for incitement to commit murder.

Producer Iain Macleod spoke of the shocking plot, and said: "We are exploring a very 21st Century problem: teenagers self-radicalising through watching extreme content online.

"In the end, we wanted this to be a story about communication within families - what are the right and wrong ways to talk to younger family members who are gravitating towards extreme views?"

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
