Corrie newbie Rebecca James Ryan on working with Tina O'Brien before and joining her brother on the ITV soap

Rebecca James Ryan made her Coronation Street debut as Lydia Chambers last month.

And viewers of the ITV soap are already suspicious about what the character may be hiding.

Rebecca, who fans instantly recognised from her previous TV roles, arrived on the cobbles as the PA of one of Underworld’s clients.

Her first scene saw her in the factory with boss Gavin and Sarah Barlow, who was in a bit of a flap trying to negotiate a deal.

But Lydia soon stepped in when she noticed Sarah looking unwell and her intervention helped them strike a deal.

The girls hit it off and Lydia has been spotted hanging out with Sarah on various occasions.

However, fans think they have worked out a secret love child storyline after Sarah met up with Lydia and her son Finn and introduced them to her husband Adam.

But after previously not recognising her, the solicitor later admitted that she was his ex and that he had a relationship with her years ago.

Then before Christmas, Lydia was spotted enjoying a kiss with Adam’s uncle, Daniel Osbourne.

Speaking about her new character, Rebecca told press including the Manchester Evening News: “She’s a really fun, cool girl. She’s educated, she’s gone to uni and she’s there to sort of cause a little bit of trouble.

“But [it’s] not from her own doing. She gets put in situations, shall we say, that she reacts to.”

There is some familiarity for Rebecca on the Corrie cobbles as she has worked with Tina O’Brien, who plays Sarah, before.

“I’ve absolutely loved it,” the former Shameless actress said of appearing on the soap. "It’s been a dream come true, especially being from Manchester myself. It’s such an iconic show.

"Everyone is so lovely and made me feel so welcome so I’m having the best time."

She added: "It’s lovely to get to work with Tina again because we worked together on Waterloo Road for a little bit and it’s really lovely to have Tina there.

"It makes it feel much more comfortable."

Bur it’s not the only familiar face Rebecca may bump into on Corrie as her own brother is also on the soap.

Jack James Ryan joined as Jacob Hay for a short stint last year but he recently made a return with more scenes coming up in 2022.

"It’s so amazing to be working with Jack," Rebecca said. “That is another dream come true, to get to work with Jack at the same time on the same thing."

It’s not the first time they appeared on the same show though.

Jack had a brief appearance on Casualty while Rebecca was starring in the BBC show but the pair didn’t get to work together.

"But I’ve worked with my older brother Charlier before," she added. “We’re all actors, there’s three of us."

But it’s not been Rebecca’s first attempt to get on the soap as she told us she has auditioned before.
