Corrie legend William Roache to 'spill soap secrets' for cruise ship shows

William Roache is heading from the Corrie cobbles to shows on cruise ships.

The Coronation Street star, 89, has been beloved across the UK for his role in the ITV soap for six decades.

Now a report from the Daily Star has revealed what the actor has signed a deal for as is due to appear in a string of shows on a cruise ship.

An insider told the paper: "William will be the guest of honour on the cruise. The organisers are confident his star power will boost bookings."

They added that the actor has accrued millions of fans due to his much-loved role as Ken Barlow, from which he is hoped to share much gossip with audiences.

“He will be taking part in An Audience With… during his time onboard," added the source. "He’ll be speaking about his years on Corrie and revealing some behind-the-scenes secrets."

The deal is noted to be a four-day set of shows from Imagine Cruising which starts in early September and also features performances from classical singer Katherine Jenkins and pop legend Lulu.

The report follows the actor's battle with Covid-19 earlier this year which saw him spend time away from the ITV soap.

Following reports surrounding his health, an ITV spokesperson said: "Following recent reports about his health, William Roache has asked us to clarify that he took time off work after testing positive for Covid.

"He has recovered well and is looking forward to returning to the cobbles as soon as possible."

A source told The Mirror in March: "He is doing really well and is looking forward to returning. Bill is such a well-loved member of the team and everyone is delighted he has recovered so well."

The actor has been clear that he has no plans to retire from his beloved role as Ken Barlow.

While his character has been temporarily written out of the soap, his son Peter Barlow has suffered continued health woes due to his alcoholism, causing discord with the rest of the family over a liver donor - which was finally found in episodes earlier this week.

Representatives of William Roache at ITV declined to comment on this story.
