Ofcom has received more than 200 complaints over a comment made by Evelyn Plummer on Coronation Street.
The broadcasting watchdog was contacted about the scenes featuring the character, played by Maureen Lipman.
Viewers of the ITV soap complained when Tyrone Dobbs' grandmother gave an opinion on 'play therapy'.
It came as Evelyn tried to help Tyrone and Fiz Stape deal with daughter Hope's latest crime.
During the visit to Weatherfield in question, Fiz, played by Jennie McApline, spent the night in a police cell, sticking to her story that she started the fire at the flat Tyron shared with new girlfriend Alina Pop.
Viewers saw the factory worker later suffered a miscarriage before discovering the fire was being treated as arson.
Hope, played by young star Amelia Flanagan, lit a candle next to Alina's unborn baby's cot last month after growing jealous of her and dad Tyrone having a baby together.

Evelyn urged Tyrone to make Fiz see sense, pointing out that Hope needed "professional help" during an episode aired on Monday, August 16.
"She’s had play therapy, touchy, feely rubbish, new age, but she needs something long-term," Evelyn said in the scene.
"Teach her right from wrong."
Viewers later made an official complaint to Ofcom after watching the scene - 275 in total - as well as hitting out online, the Daily Star reports.
Play Therapy UK (PTUK) and Play Therapy International also criticised the remarks, which they claimed 'discounted the effectiveness of play therapy, bringing the profession into disrepute'.
