Corrie go camping! Coronation Street stars head on staycation together in the sunshine

It could almost be a scene from the soap - as a host of smiling Coronation Street stars pitched up tents for a summer staycation together.

But it was actually an off-screen gathering of some of Corrie 's favourite characters at the weekend, as the soap's on-screen couples Daniel Brocklebank and Gareth Pierce and Tony Maudsley and Sue Cleaver joined Julia Goulding for a mega soap camping trip.

Daniel, who plays Corrie vicar Billy Mayhew, posted a series of snaps from their camp site, with tents seen in the background.

And it appears the trip was blessed with sunshine at their undisclosed location after what appeared to be a cloudier start to their weekend.

The show's Gareth Pierce, who plays Todd Grimshaw, was all smiles as he posted photos from the trip and said: "Camping with the Corrie famalamadingdong".

Friends sent messages of approval, including their Corrie co-stars, with Sally Webster icon Sally Dynevor saying: "Oh you legends. Have a lovely time" while David Platt star Jack P Shepherd said: "Go team!"

Although soap fans admitted their confusion about seeing so many of the castmates together.

One said: "This scene wasn't in the omnibus!"

While another asked: "Is this a working holiday or is it going to be on Corrie? Either way I hope you have a fabulous time."

The happy camping trip is a world away from Todd's worries on the soap - where he is currently being blackmailed by young Will, the teenager he hired to manipulate his love rival Paul Foreman in scenes last year.

While his unsuspecting love Billy has just proposed and is full of joy about their relationship, scheming Todd is trying to cover his tracks of those past misdemeanours.

Meanwhile former Benidorm star Tony's character George and Sue's character Eileen are also never far from drama with their on-again, off-again relationship.

But there were no such worries on the actors' friendly soap break, which appeared to be full of joy and laughter.

Daniel posted a series of snaps from the trip, also joined by pals from the Corrie production crew, and said: "I love our gang. Corrie camping."

He later added a further photo with Tony, who plays George Shuttleworth, and Gareth, saying: "This has been a happy weekend."

Friends loved to see it, rushing to add their comments like: "Love this! Camping clears the head and feeds the soul," and "Yesss! Love this, happiness is worth everything."
