Corrie first look as Kelly is charged with Seb's murder

Abi Franklin is on a mission to find out the painful truth in next week's Coronation Street following the brutal death of her son Seb.

The grieving mum is told by the family liaison officer that Kelly Neelan has been charged with Seb’s murder, and gangmates Eli and Jay have pleaded guilty to GBH over the attack on girlfriend Nina Lucas, but it seems Corey Brent is going to get away scot-free.

Abi is reeling to be told that witness statements indicate that Nina’s clothing is what provoked the attack.

Elsewhere Asha is being urged to do the right thing and stop covering for Corey in this powerful hate crime soap storyline mirroring the murder in 2007 of goth Sophie Lancaster.

Foster parent Toyah Battersby is stunned when police call at the builder’s yard flat and arrest Kelly, and Asha watches in horror as she's driven away in a police car.

Corey’s dad Stefan instructs him to cut all ties with Kelly and as Abi goes to the police station to get them to listen to Seb’s voice message he left her just before he was attacked, Corey walks in with his dad to make a statement.

Seb, played by Harry Visinoni, lost his life after he and new love Nina were set upon by a gang of baying yobs as they took a walk along the canal.

Goth Nina was slapped by Kelly egged on by the gang, and when the couple tried to escape they were chased by the drunken teens.

Viewers didn't see who brought Seb to the ground and repeatedly kicked him as Nina desperately tried to get away.

Coronation Street has worked with Sylvia Lancaster who founded The Sophie Lancaster Foundation in memory of her goth daughter Sophie who was murdered in a park for the way she looked.

Sylvia teamed up with with Corrie with the mission of tackling and encouraging more people to report hate crime.

The attack on Nina and Seb is similar to what happened to Sophie in 2007 when she and her boyfriend Robert Maltby were set upon because they were members of the goth subculture.

As a consequence of the attack in Stubbylee Park, Bacup 20-year-old Sophie died from her injuries.
