Corrie fans 'work out' Stephen's twist exit storyline as killer plots cobbles dash

Coronation Street fans have theorised over what Stephen Reid’s exit storyline could be on the ITV soap after the character revealed a plan to exit the cobbles in secret on Friday.

The scenes came at the end of a tense episode, in the wake of Teddy’s narrow brush with death, which landed him in the hospital in a coma.

Murderous Stephen – who is played by actor Todd Boyce in the ITV soap – narrowly avoided being uncovered as a killer by Teddy, moments before he was run down by a van as he went to expose Stephen for his son Leo’s disappearance.

Stephen killed Leo after the structural engineer discovered he was bankrupt and stealing from his own mother.

Yet as Stephen revealed plans to skip town, Corrie fans have been left doubtful the character will really manage to escape the consequences of his actions.

Taking to Twitter, one asked: “Stephen will maybe be arrested trying to leave the country?”

Another fan even suggested a wild potential theory, as they wrote: “Jenny finally twigs about Stephen. Stephen steals mini bus to escape. Crashes into wall. Squashes Summer who is snogging Griff with Max filming. Sadly all don’t make it.”

In scenes that aired on Friday evening’s episode of the ITV soap, Stephen arrived at the hospital on a mission to finish the job and kill Teddy to silence him for good.

Speaking to ailing Teddy alone in his hospital bed, Stephen said: “Teddy, you in there,” he said whispering to the comatose man.

“This is the last thing on earth I want to do. I’m genuinely sorry for what I did to Leo. It was an accident. I panicked but anyway, here goes nothing, so long old pal.”

But as Stephen went to kill comatose Teddy, Jenny walked in, completely oblivious to the truth of the situation she had stumbled upon.

In later scenes back at the Rovers, Jenny then received good news that Teddy would likely survive.

The truth of the matter sent Stephen in a tailspin – until he got word from Six Guys about his moped crash and realised he could easily take them for a cash settlement.

Stephen got a call from the delivery service after they admitted the moped he had crashed had not been insured. He pressed them for a £10,000 payoff under the table to make the situation go away.

Speaking in hushed tones on the phone, Stephen said: “I promise you'll never hear from me again, and neither will anyone else, because as soon as I get your money, I'm leaving the UK for good.”
