Corrie fans were saying the same thing as the soap returned on a Sunday

Coronation Street fans took to social media to have their say as the soap switched to a different night because of the football.

Weatherfield watchers haven't had their fix of Corrie drama since Thursday because of Euro 2020.

Many voiced their delight at taking a trip to the famous cobbles for an hour-long special.

But others commented how 'strange' it felt to watch Coronation Street and its rural sister on a Sunday.

Sam Blakeman gave his mum the slip to take a card for Nick (ITV)

"Corrie on a Sunday it’s not natural," tweeted one.

"It's weird having Emmerdale and #Corrie on, on a Sunday

"Weird watching #corrie on a Sunday instead of the usual Monday, Wednesday or Friday," said another fan.

In 1996 Corrie began broadcasting on Sundays as well as Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This continued until 2008.

Seeing Nick and Sam sprawled on the ground, Leanne and Steve McDonald raced towards them fearing the worst (ITV)

"Cup of coffee and an hour long episode of @itvcorrie ahh perfect!" said another soap watcher.

"Finally #corrie I’ve been waiting for this!!" exclaimed another,

"On Sunday like the old days," said another.

Throughout The UEFA European Football Championship, taking place until July 11, Corrie's TV schedule has been shaken up.

But all episodes for each coming week have been made available on the ITV Hub every Monday.

This will allow viewers the chance to binge watch their favourite soap or choose to watch whenever they like.

Next week Corrie is on on Monday June 21 at 9pm, Wednesday June 23 at 9pm and Friday June 25 at 7.30pm.

In Sunday's Corrie there was drama on Father's Day as 10-year-old Sam Blakeman was again drawn into Leanne Battersby and Nick Tilsley's ongoing drugs gang nightmare.

Having given his mum the slip, Sam called with a Father’s Day card for Nick as drugs lord Harvey’s sidekick watched on.

Leanne was horrified to hear the sound of gunshot and to see Nick and Sam sprawled on the ground.

Thankfully Sam escaped unscathed after memorising the car number plate but his mum was furious.

And troubled teenager Summer Spellman sparked concern when she passed out after hardly eating anything during a meal at the bistro with her guardians Billy Mayhew and Todd Grimshaw.
