Corrie fans say Peter Barlow actor shouldn’t be drinking at Christmas because his character is an alcoholic

Coronation Street fans commented that Peter Barlow actor Chris Gascoyne shouldn't be drinking after he was pictured at the soap's pre-Christmas party drinks.

Co-star Andy Whyment shared a photo of the cast on his Instagram and, thinking of his alcoholic character Peter, fans joked about Chris being seen with a drink in his hand.

Chris, who has played Peter in the soap for almost 20 years, appeared to be holding a pint of Guinness in the snap alongside his co-stars Andy, Alan Halsall, Colson Smith, Jack P Shepherd and Michael Le Vell.

"Should Peter be drinking?" asked one fan.

"Peter you shouldn't be drinking pal," said another.

"God knows where Peter will end up tonight," said another.

Another follower cried: "Peterrrrr nooooo don’t drink."

Peter Barlow reached for the bottle over his desperation to find Carla Connor on Coronation Street (ITV/Coronation Street)

And another soap watcher commented: "No way is Peter back on the bevvies."

Peter hit the bottle again earlier this year after his partner Carla Connor disappeared and was found sleeping rough.

But he's now got his life back on track again after the love of his life, played by Alison King, was coaxed back to Weatherfield with support from friends and family.

The family has since been worried about Peter's half brother Daniel Osbourne who also turned to booze after the death of his wife Sinead.
