Corrie fans 'praying' Peter Barlow is OK after wedding day collapse

It was the day that Coronation Street's star-crossed lovers Carla Connor and Peter Barlow were finally meant to celebrate their enduring love and remarry.

But in true soap style, the course of true love never did run smooth - and the wedding of Peter and Carla was left with an almighty cliffhanger at the end of the hour-long episode of Corrie.

While a clearly ailing Peter made it through his vows to make Carla his wife once again, there was a dramatic final scene that saw him collapse on to the Corrie cobbles outside the Rovers Return.

It left fans on an almighty cliffhanger and having to wait until Monday to see if the extremely poorly Peter - who is waiting for a liver transplant - survives his wedding day.

Now fans are "praying" that Peter makes it through.

One tweeted: "OMG I'm praying Peter will be OK, " while another said: "Poor Peter, if needing a new liver doesn't kill him, that thud on the cobbles just might."

Soap fans had earlier watched as the couple planned their "low key" wedding without any family - with Roy Cropper roped in to give away Carla, radiant in a black and white floral embellished gown, to Peter.

But, unbeknown to Carla, an ailing Peter was struggling to even walk down the aisle to meet his bride.

"I'm not going to croak before I say my vows don't worry," he had earlier told his worried brother Daniel (Rob Mallard).

An emotional Peter added: "Life's too short, for any of us it could be over like that. The only thing that matters is being with the ones you love."

Daniel was later seen desperately trying to convince Peter he needed to go to the hospital, not to the wedding.

"All of this stress is going to kill you," said Daniel, but Peter would not be moved and insisted on being driven to the wedding.

The words of his sister, florist Tracey Barlow, rather summed up the mood when she fortuitously said: "Peter's either getting wed or dropping dead. Either way he's going to need flowers."

As the couple delivered their emotional vows, a worried Daniel insisted that Peter be taken to hospital.

But Peter said: "I just want to savour this moment."

They did manage to seal the deal andd made it back to Weatherfield as man and wife to the applause of waiting friends.

But then there was that epic fall onto the cobbles floor to the screams of the new Mrs Barlow.

Soap fans will now have to wait until Monday to see if Peter is going to pull through.
