Peter Barlow and Carla Connor haven't had the easiest of relationships in the history of Coronation Street.
But the on-screen couple, played by Chris Gascoyne and Alison King, are much loved by fans of the ITV soap.
And latest scenes showed why as viewers praised them for 'breaking hearts' thanks to the 'beautiful' moment.
Over the last few months, Corrie fans have watched alcoholic Peter struggle as he hit the bottle after he was attacked while working for Street Cars.
The even triggered another downward spiral for the character and after previous years of addiction, he was left in desperate need of a liver transplant.
In Monday night's double trip to the cobbles, viewers saw Carla receive a phone call from the transplant centre who have been trying to get hold of Peter to tell him they have a liver and he needs to get to the hospital as soon as possible.
After locating her husband, Carla and Peter head to the hospital as he prepares to head for the surgery.
After a brief joke from Peter that he's going to get his scar from the surgery tattooed, it was then time for Peter to be wheeled away as Carla said her goodbyes.
"I’m right here, you know," an emotional Carla said.
"I know," Peter replied before putting his hand on his heart and adding: "Always here. Even when you’re not."
Carla simply nodded in response, visibly overcome with emotion.
Viewers now have to wait to see if Peter's transplant is successful but it didn't stop them feeling incredibly overwhelmed by the latest scenes.
"Loved this moment, Beautiful once again I can feel relieved now. #carter. #corrie," tweeted one.
Another said: "Chris and Ali breaking our hearts again! This was such a beautiful scene. Brilliantly writing by Jan McVerry."
"I can't stop crying I love them so much," a third added.
A fourth said: "You really know how to make me cry don’t you?"
"Love love love how much Carla abs Peter we got tonight, corrie u treatin us #Corrie," another cheered.
A fan also gushed: "That was a lovely sweet moment between Carla and Peter. They are the best couple in soapland their relationship is pure #Corrie."
