Corrie fans outraged after character fails to return for Johnny's funeral

Coronation Street fans were amazed when a character from the past failed to turn up for Johnny Connor's funeral.

Johnny tragically died by drowning last month in a nightmarish sinkhole disaster.

The heroic former pub landlord went to help his estranged wife Jenny after she disappeared down a sinkhole that gave way in the Platt family's back garden.

In emotional scenes Jenny and his daughter Carla both gave a moving eulogy at his funeral service during Wednesday night's double bill (November 17).

But Corrie fans were amazed that his other daughter Kate, played by Faye Brookes, failed to attend.

It was explained at the service that Kate couldn't make it to the funeral and baffled viewers had their say on Twitter.

@corriepodcast tweeted: "Kate can't be here today. Selfish selfish Kate."

@RyanGTweetsTV said: "Seems a bit insensitive for Kate not to be at her own father's funeral?"

@Ockeghem1497 queried: "Kate couldn't make it to her dad's funeral?"

@AndyGibsonTV wrote: "Bit rude of Kate to not show up for Johnny's funeral. Could they not have even cast a new actor in the role?"

@hervibe56 said: "Oh yeah Kate! She couldn't come back for her dad's funeral?"

And @DanHarvey74 asked: "Kate not bothered about attending her dad's funeral?"

Kate left the cobbles in 2019 to go travelling after her wife-to-be Rana Habeeb was killed in the Underworld factory collapse.

After Corrie Faye was runner-up on this year's series of Dancing on Ice to Capital Radio DJ Sonny Jay.

She was re-partnered with Matt Evers after fellow pro Hamish Gaman was forced to pull out of the ITV celeb skating contest following a finger injury.

Faye played Corrie's Kate Connor from 2015 to 2019 and won a National Television Award for Best Newcomer in January 2017.
