Fiz Stape's relationship with Tyrone Dobbs reached the end of the line in Wednesday's Coronation Street double bill.
Many soap viewers had tipped the dependable couple to be the next Jack and Vera Duckworth, but sadly it was not to be as mechanic Tyrone left Fiz for 23-year-old neighbour Alina Pop.
Fiz was taken aback when Tyrone told her the passion had gone out of their relationship and appeared to blame her.
"You stopped. You know, you could have ..." he struggled to tell her.
"What could I have done? Made a bit more of an effort? Gone to the gym?" the mother-of-two demanded to know in a dramatic showdown.
"Slapped on a bit more make up while I did the kids tea?
"This is what a working mum looks like Tyrone. This is a real woman."
And when he had a dig at her for wearing pyjamas and going to sleep on him, the machinist said: "I was tired Tyrone.
"Tired after working hard and looking after our kids. So I'm sorry I didn't have the energy to get into some sexy underwear and make you feel loved."
"Maybe we just took each other for granted," he replied.
Sadly their daughter Hope heard the entire exchange while sitting on the stairs and it didn't go unnoticed by fans who were heartbroken for her.
"I was really feeling for Hope there!" said one viewer on Twitter.
"Hope," tweeted actress Sally Ann Matthews, who plays Corrie's Jenny Connor, with a broken heart emoji.
"Oh this is hard to watch @itvcorrie never thought I'd say this but actually feel sorry for Fiz #Corrie and poor Hope sitting there hearing everything."
Viewers are now worried Hope will go off the rails again.
The daughter of Fiz and her late ex husband John Stape was previously sent to a specialist school in Birmingham for attacking her younger sister Ruby.
After killer John died in 2011 Hope was raised by Fiz and Tyrone who got together the following year.
Fiz comforted Tyrone after he was in an abusive relationship with Kirsty Soames, Ruby's biological mother.
After the row with Fiz, Tyrone took off in a taxi with Alina for a night away in Knutsford.
In a final insult to Fiz she overheard him telling his new girlfriend that she wouldn't be needing pyjamas.
Next week there's more heartbreak for Fiz when the girls take to Alina as their daddy's new woman.
He and Alina fell for each other after she lodged with the family and they realised they had a love of dogs and cars in common.
