Corrie fans lick their lips as Betty's secret beef hotpot recipe 'leaked'

Coronation Street fans are licking their lips at a new addition to the Co-op's selection of ready meals.

In the supermarket's latest collaboration with the ITV soap, fans can now get their hand's on Betty's famous beef hotpot.

The Co-op posted a photo of its new product on social media and Corrie fans were quick to react.

"So, who's spotted our very own Betty's Hotpot in store?" the supermarket asked.

"Got mine today," one replied, while others vowed to keep their eyes peeled for the dish.

"Not yet seen it but will do when I do," one said.

But some shocked fans pointed out that Betty's hotpot was supposed to be kept a secret.

"Who let the cat out of the bag?" one shopper asked.

"I thought Betty always said it was a secret recipe," another said.

The supermarket reassured customers that they have been "sworn to secrecy".

Betty's hotpot, which she would serve up in the Rovers Return Inn, became famous in Weatherfield - and has even featured in a number of storylines.

Although Betty's recipe is supposed to be a secret, a number of takes on the famous dish have appeared over the years.

In 1995, hotpots based on Betty’s recipe were launched by Holland’s Pies and in 2010 Betty’s Hotpots went on sale to mark the soap’s 50th anniversary.

An 'official' recipe also appeared in the book 'Life and Times at the Rovers Return' by Daran Little.

The Co-op signed a product placement deal with the ITV soap in 2018, with a Co-op convenience store moving into the set of March the same year.

'Corrie lorries' with the soap logo on have also been spotted delivering goods across the country.
