Corrie fans left baffled by weather 'blunder' as rainstorm causes havoc

A catastrophic rainstorm has already caused havoc on the cobbles of Coronation Street - and that's only set to continue later this week.

But viewers of the ITV soap were left baffled when the action began on Monday night.

As Debbie Webster put the final touches to her House of Horrors event, and the Alahan's set off on their family break, the rain began to pour.

Which those in Manchester - or Salford where the ITV soap is set - are used to having to deal with.

But as Dev, Asha and Aadi set off, the rain worsened and the family hit a fallen tree leaving them with two punctured tyres.

While lost on the country road, what they didn't bargain for was a police van carrying drug lord Harvey Gaskell to crash into them before veering off the side of the road.

As Harvey emerged from the van, Kevin Webster arrived - presumably being called by Dev for help.

But the mechanic didn't last long as he was hit over the head by Harvey who used his phone before getting in the van and disappearing off to the cobbles.

Moments later, after Dev rescued Asha from the wreckage of their car, the vehicle exploded leaving viewers wondering if Aadi was still inside.

Meanwhile, over in Weatherfield, the rain was causing more problems at Debbie's event as the generator being used by DJ Ryan disappeared down a hole as the ground opened up.

And Abi Franklin and Corey Brent also found themselves below ground when the street gave way as they faced off for the first time.

Corrie fans, however, couldn't help but point out a 'blunder' with the special effects.

"Loving this keep dry rain. Rain that you don't need an umbrella," joked one.

Another said: "It's pouring down but no one is getting wet!"

"Ummmm, why wasn't Harvey getting wet with that rain coming down?" a third asked.

A fourth laughed: "Rain where you don’t get wet , who knew #corrie."

"Wicked Harvey has wonderfully rain-resistant skin. I wonder what cosmetics they distribute in HMP Weatherfield? #Corrie," another commented.

But the Corrie stars at the centre of the action have all confirmed that they really did get soaked.

Harvey actor Will Mellor admitted he was "buzzing" to be back on-screen after being locked up for his crimes.

But he also confessed to it being a case of "careful watch you wish for".

"I love all that and they said are you alright with this and I said, 'I'm in. If I'm doing it, I want it to be real, I want it to look scary... If we're going to do it, we've got to go for it," he told pres including the Manchester Evening News.

"The one part of this is that it's all in torrential rainfall and there was a thing mentioned right at the beginning that it's a bit like Cape Fear and if you remember Robert De Niro in Cape Fear...

"I thought, I love that idea but the difference is, when you're filming in torrential rainfall on night shoots for 12 hours... wow. It was tough."

Tanisha Gorey, who plays teen Asha, also confirmed it was "cold and wet," when asked what it was like filming the stunt.

"It was unreal," she added. "Four o'clock in the morning, absolute drenched, freezing cold. I mean... it's definitely something I'll remember."
