Corrie fans heartbroken over teen eating disorder storyline

She's been through a turbulent year and Coronation Street fans now have more reason to worry about Summer Spellman.

Corrie fans are concerned that the teenage Oxford hopeful has developed an eating disorder after having a crush on her teacher Daniel Osbourne.

Summer was feeling frumpy after looking at photos of Daniel's love interest Daisy Midgeley.

But fans clocked what was going on and took to Twitter to air their concerns.

They also drew comparisons with fellow ITV soap Emmerdale's eating disorder storyline featuring Priya Kotecha who is struggling to cope following her involvement in the recent Maize Maze fire.

@chattymandan asked: "Is Summer gonna get an eating disorder?"

@RyanGTweetsTV said with a heartbroken emoji: "Summer thinking there is something wrong with her.

"It's ok to be yourself Summer."

@Justin_rafferty also used a heartbroken emoji as they said: "Summer has a eating disorder and I just wanna hug her."

@TellyChat_ said: "I just want to give Summer a hug."

@BiffenGlenn pleaded: "Yep, here it starts. Summer don't do it."

And @ElloTeenah said: "Been expecting an ED storyline for a while. Never expected it to be with Summer. #Corrie."

Summer, played by Harriet Bibby, recently found out she has Type 1 diabetes, and has been trying to implement changes advised by doctors.

Type 1 diabetes is a serious condition where blood glucose level is too high because the body can’t make the hormone insulin.

@DonnatellaSpace tweeted: "I hope @itvcorrie research into storyline with Summer is 100% as type 1 diabetes is no simple illness.

"The audience needs to see how diabetes plays alongside this eating disorder. Many young people are diagnosed with diabetes."
