Corrie fans fuming as Kelly is sentenced to life imprisonment for Seb's murder

Coronation Street fans were not happy on Wednesday evening as Kelly Neelan was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Seb Franklin.

Kelly (Millie Gibson) returned to court to hear the judge's verdict after the real killer, Corey Brent (Maximus Evans), walked away a free man earlier this month.

During Wednesday's two episodes, Kelly's lawyer Imran Habeeb delivered a heartfelt speech where he begged the judge to consider Kelly's troubled upbringing and her fragile mental health.

However, the judge announced: "I sentence you, Kelly Neelan, to life imprisonment with a minimum of 15 years to be served."

Soap fans tuning in at home were left fuming with the sentencing and took to Twitter to vent their frustration.

"Omg 15 years up to life in prison??? Corey needs to be sent down immediately #corrie," one person posted.

Another viewer tweeted: "#Corrie @itvcorrie Yikes, 15 years... ffs," while a third added: "This is ridiculous as Kelly didn’t kill him #corrie."

Someone else posted: "Absolutely brutal 15 years poor Kelly & the killer is running around Scott flamming free hope Corey gets caught out sooner rather than later. #Corrie."

And another tweeted: "I'm sorry but i just cannot wrap my head around Kelly going down for life for what Corey has done, LIFE???? excuse me?? they better fix it immediately. #Corrie."

Earlier this month it was revealed that ITV had been met with 137 Ofcom complaints from unhappy fans who didn't want to see Corey get away with his vicious crime.

Viewers of the soap had even threatened to boycott the soap after Corey was found not guilty.

The ruling was particularly tough for Seb's heartbroken mother Abi who saw him smiling, joking and celebrating as he walked free from the court alongside his father, who she suspects has paid off witnesses to ensure his son's verdict.

*Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7.30pm on ITV with previous episodes available on ITV Hub.
