Corrie fans floored by Johnny Connor's hairy new look

Coronation Street's Johnny Connor is currently in prison for a historic armed robbery and fans were taken aback when he unveiled a hairy new look.

The Rovers Return landlord has been behind bars since January and viewers couldn't help notice his longer hair and bushy beard.

His appearance is a far cry from his usually clean cut image running the local boozer in the ITV soap.

"Johnny’s prison hair/beard has reached another level…" said one viewer on Twitter.

"Woah, now THAT’S what we call a beard, Johnny!" said the Conversation Street podcast.

"I like this look on him," admired another.

"Wow! Never knew Johnny was preparing for Castaway 2!" gasped another soap watcher.

"That beard!" exclaimed another.

In Monday night's double bill Johnny appeared to wish his neighbour and prison mate Gary Windass good luck when he was on the way to court to be sentenced for perverting the court of justice.

Gary, who covered for his sister Faye attacking Adam Barlow, has looked out for Johnny as his health has been deteriorating.

Johnny has opened up to Gary about his hallucinations when he was convinced he could see his late son Aidan.

The character, played by Richard Hawley, has been suffering from complications of his multiple sclerosis diagnosis.

As well as going blind, he has been struggling with his mobility because of his debilitating illness.

In February he was diagnosed with Charles Bonnet Syndrome, a condition some people get when they lose their vision, causing them to have visual hallucinations.

Last month he was brutally attacked by his prison cellmate when he suspected that the older man was a drug dealer after spotting his MS medication.

Fans are worried for Johnny fending for himself after Gary was allowed to walk free after serving the time while awaiting sentence.
