Corrie fans 'find it weird' that Norris Cole star had another 'unrecognisable' role in ITV soap

Coronation Street fans have said they 'find it weird' that legendary actor Malcolm Hebden had a former role in the soap.

The retired actor is best known to viewers as nosey neighbour Norris Cole.

This week, the devastating news that Norris has died reaches Weatherfield as his wife Freda tells Mary Taylor, Ken Barlow, and Rita Tanner.

It was announced in January that Corrie star Malcolm Hebden had retired from the soap after 27 years of playing busybody Norris.

He last appeared on the cobbles in 2019, returning after suffering a heart attack in 2017.

On Monday night, in between Corrie's usual double bill, a special tribute episode aired to celebrate Malcolm and his iconic character as they both bid farewell to the cobbles after more than two decades.

Viewers were shown plenty of clips of Norris from over the years as well as interviews with Malcolm and his Corrie co-stars.

But a look at his first-ever appearance on the cobbles really got viewers talking.

They were surprised to discover that Norris wasn't Malcolm's only role in Corrie as he first appeared as Spanish character Carlos.

The Spanish waiter appeared in 10 episodes and was a love interest for Mavis Riley.

And he was almost unrecognisable.

"So weird that Malcolm Hebden was in Corrie years before he came back in as Norris Cole #Corrie," tweeted one viewer.

Another said: "#corrie I had no idea Malcolm Hebden was Mavis's Carlos & the actor metamorphosed into Norris!"

"What? Norris had a Spanish cousin?" a third wrote.

A fourth added: "Oh wow, he's very different from Norris!"

"What?? Norris was Carlos??" another surprised fan said as viewer also commented: "Unrecognisable in his first part."
