Corrie fans divided over 'pointless' Lydia and Adam plot ending as character exits

Coronation Street fans were pretty divided, with many annoyed, over the end to a storyline on the ITV soap on Wednesday.

Lydia Chambers exited the show, as she "called a truce" with ex Adam Barlow after vowing to destroy his life.

The pair had a row in recent scenes that saw her push him off of a balcony, leaving him fighting for his life.

Prior to this, Lydia set him up with a fake affair and harassment claims, planting evidence in his flat to make him look guilty.

After weeks of torment and Adam hitting rock bottom, he almost lost his life during the deadly fall on Monday night.

But despite all of this, Adam forgave Lydia at the end of Wednesday's episode, and the pair called a truce - after Lydia explained their past.

Lydia confirmed that when they dated he cheated on her numerous times, while he also got her pregnant before telling her to have an abortion.

She blamed him for her life falling apart following this, and decided to get her revenge.

Adam lied to the police that he slipped and fell off the balcony, claiming Lydia was innocent, while he also refused to press charges over the torment.

This meant Lydia was free to go and she left Weatherfield for a fresh start, something some viewers called a "pointless" way to end the plot after so much drama.

Many suggested she should have faced trouble for everything she did, and they couldn't understand why Adam allowed her to get away with it all.

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: "Truce? Are you f***ing kidding me? Literally the most pointless storyline!"

Another said: "Lydia... that's it?" as a third tweeted: "So... is that it with the Lydia storyline? Well that sucked."

A fourth fan commented: "They called a truce? That was it."

The comments kept coming too, with another writing: "Also wtf is this Lydia storyline...... so she came, told a pack of lies then left??"

A sixth viewer tweeted: "Not happy at this ending did a writer have to go on holiday. All that build up and boom everything is forgiven and forgotten. Wasted what could had been a good ongoing storyline."

Other viewers were happy to see the plot end, with one writing: "Glad Lydia is coming clean with Sarah."

Another said: "So happy adam and sarah finally gor a happy ending and see ya Lydia."

A third tweeted: "Nice ending to a not nice storyline, thought the actress that played Lydia was very good though pity she didn't get a better storyline."

The soap recently confirmed the end of the storyline would air this month, and would lead to Lydia departing the show.
