Corrie fans crying again after 'cruel' Faye Windass exit as star Ellie Leach shares heartfelt message to co-star Colson Smith

Coronation Street fans had a strong reaction to emotional final scenes for Faye Windass as she waved goodbye to the cobbles. Faye, played by Ellie Leach, headed off in a taxi driven by her dad Tim Metcalfe to start a new life in Slough with Jackson Hodge and their daughter Miley, who she gave up as a baby after falling pregnant when she was 12.

In a tearful heart-to-heart Faye's besotted fiance Craig Tinker, played by Colson Smith, decided to let go after realising her feelings for her ex. He urged in Wednesday night's episode of the soap "go on, what are you waiting for?" as he told her she would always be wondering "what if?" if they stayed together.

But as the happy reunited family drove off the street, Faye ordered her dad to stop the car as she spotted Craig walking by and jumped out. Some fans wondered if Faye might have changed her mind, and Tim looked worried too.

But she just wanted to say a final goodbye to her Craig, who has been by her side since they were childhood friends and even when she secretly went into labour with Miley.

Giving Craig a warm hug she said: "I love you and always will." She told him: "Thank you for everything Craig Tinker. Thank you for all that we've been through and for everything we've done together. I wouldn't be the person that I am without you."

@corriepodcast fumed on Twitter: "Unfathomably cruel for Faye to jump out of the car there, making Craig think she’d changed her mind again. Again." @WendyCo25383829 agreed: "Really felt for Craig then." And @LunaLocoJewels said: "She's always been a self obsessed little madam."

@louroll89ffs remarked: "Looooooool Faye is heartless." @Rosemarylouize begged with a crying emoji: "Poor Craig please give him a happy storyline!" and @clatworthy1973 said: "I feel a bit sorry for Craig."

After the scenes Ellie, who has played Faye since 2011, typed a heartfelt tribute to Colson on her Instagram with a collection of sweet snaps of the pair from over their years as Faye and Craig. She also included the page from the script showing their last words to each other.

"To my best friend," she said. "Where to even begin, starting this job at 9 years old I didnt know what to expect, never in my wildest dreams did I think I would meet someone who would become one of the most special people in my life.

"You really are one in a million, i’ve never met anyone quite like you and im so blessed to call you my best mate, just dont go getting another fiancé too quickly okay!!!!!!"

Echoing Faye's final words she added: "Thank you for everything Colson Smith, everything we’ve been through, everything we’ve done together, I wouldn’t be who I am today if it wasn’t for you. I love you and I always will. Craye forever."

Lucy Fallon, who played Bethany Platt in Corrie, asked: "Why am I fully sobbing." And sophmoule commented with a teary emoji: "The sweetest pair."
