Corrie fans compare the soap's stunt week to Squid Games

Coronation Street viewers have been on the edge of their seats watching cinematic scenes on the Trafford-based soap.

The long-running show is screening a week of epic drama, dubbed 'Super Soap Week' and 'Stunt Week.'

Blockbuster episodes have delivered destruction on a scale not seen since the epic tram crash of 2010 and more than one character looks set to lose their life.

Then Harvey made his escape and set out to kill Leanne Battersby in dangerous scenes which saw him hold Leanne hostage before she made a swift escape while bound and gagged.

Harvey then pursued her as she tried to hide.

And as he approached Leanne with a wrench Harvey fell through a sinkhole and Leanne was saved.

Elsewhere Corrie fans were delighted after Roy Cropper saved the life of Abi Franklin.

She was in grave danger after falling into a Victorian sewer with her son’s killer Corey Brent.

At different points of Wednesday night, both Corey and Abi held a gun she planned to use and it was Roy who convinced her not to kill Corey.

And Jenny Connor and her ex husband Johnny are also at risk after a sink hole in the Platt's garden swallowed them up.

Amazed fans have compared the scenes to the hit Netflix show Squid Game, a survival drama series which revolves around 456 players from different walks of life, all deeply in debt, who play a series of children's games for the chance to win a huge cash prize.

But there is a deadly penalty if they lose.

One fan tweeted: "#corrie #coronationstreet tonight it's like the Squid Game version of wacamole."

"Was this Coronation Street script written before squid games ? Hmmmm?" asked another.

"Watching The Squid Game for normality, have you seen @emmerdale and @itvcorrie this week?" asked another.

Reunited with son Simon Barlow and sister Toyah Battersby, there was a twist when Leanne said she hoped Harvey was dead.

However, the end of the episode showed that Harvey had washed up alive and had the gun that Abi had used to try and kill Corey.
