Corrie fans are all comparing Peter Barlow to other fictional characters after he makes screen return with Carla

Coronation Street fans rejoiced during the latest trip to the cobbles as Peter Barlow and Carla Connor finally returned to Weatherfield.

And they were back with the news that they are set to wed.

But things are not set to go to plan as Peter insists the wedding go ahead, despite suggestions he is too ill.

While he does make it to the aisle, it quickly becomes clear that he's still struggling and events take a worrying turn.

Despite the upcoming drama, Corrie fans were pleased to see the couple back on screen.

But many were comparing Peter to other fictional characters thanks to his long hair, beard and the return of the blanket.

"Peter is starting to look like Captain Haddock #Corrie," tweeted one.

Another echoed: "Peter Barlow out here looking like Captain Haddock #Corrie @itvcorrie."

"Christ, Peter Barlow has been moonlighting in Jesus Christ, Superstar #corrie," a third added.

A fourth commented: "#Corrie Peter aka Captain Birdseye."

Aside from that, viewers were just thrilled to have both Peter and Carla back.

"I'm not crying at the peter and carla scenes tonight.. nope, not at alllll wow, i love them," gushed one.

Another said: "It really is SO good to have them back on our screens #Corrie #Peter #Carla."

"seeing carla and peter back on screen increased my happiness #Corrie," a third added.

A fourth said: "Carla & Peter saying love you, I’m not crying, YOU are #Corrie."

But will it really be a happy ever after for the pair like fans are desperately hoping for?

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV
