Coronation Street actor Gareth Pierce has opened up about the love triangle between Todd and his ex Billy Mayhew, and Billy's ex Paul Foreman.
Todd, played by Gareth, plotted to set Paul up with another man, and won Billy back over by pretending he was planning on leaving town.
In Thursday night's episode, Paul arrived at Billy's house but saw a smug-looking Todd in the bedroom window, and left, heartbroken at the realisation they had rekindled the flame.
But with Billy and Paul still clearly caring for each other deeply, Gareth is not sure Todd and Billy will "go the distance" this time around either.
"Who knows, who knows," he said.
"I think the exciting thing about being on Coronation Street, is that even we as actors only know maybe sort of one to two months ahead.
"I really don't know where the journey's going, so it's exciting for us as well."
He revealed the fan reaction was "apoplectic" as conniving Todd managed to get his own way, with many viewers left heartbroken, the Mirror reported.
"Certainly Twitter was alive last night, with plenty of feeling that maybe Billy hadn't made the right choice," he said.
But he does not think Todd is pure evil, and revealed he tries to "approach Todd with compassion", as he just does "scurrilous" things for love.
"He’s just a bit broken, I think that he was – and is – so in love with Billy and he’s hurting, he’s jealous, he’s a bit ashamed as well in the way that he let down Billy but also Summer," he said.
"So you know when we’re feeling rubbish about ourselves, we can do some pretty ugly things I think as people.

"So that’s the interesting stuff for me, is getting to the heart of why he’s doing what he’s doing."
Gareth also explained that the fact Billy and Todd's daughter Summer wanted them to get back together is a huge motivating factor for Todd.
"Certainly that was a happy time in their life, when they were that kind of solid trio before Todd left that first time," he said.
"So yeah, I think she wants to get back to that. And that’s what’s motivating Todd as well really, it’s just it’s making him do some pretty awful things."
