Coronavirus rule breach arrests in Scotland: 88 made in Glasgow since pandemic began

Police have been forced to make almost 90 arrests in Glasgow for breaches of coronavirus rules since the start of the pandemic, more than in any other area of Scotland.

88 arrests have been made by the Glasgow Police Division in the period March 27 to November 14, Police Scotland figures have confirmed.

Meanwhile, 1,839 fixed penalty notices have been issued, and almost 20,000 people have been dispersed by officers when reminded of the rules.

Police data shows that in Glasgow for the above period:

  • Dispersed when informed: 19,821
  • Dispersed but only when instructed: 6,252
  • Dispersed using reasonable force: 138
  • Issued an FPN: 1,839
  • Arrested: 88
  • Issued a FPN under travel regulations: 8

By comparison, data for the whole of Scotland shows:

  • Dispersed when informed: 65,437
  • Dispersed but only when instructed: 18,050
  • Dispersed using reasonable force: 614
  • Issued an FPN: 5,526
  • Arrested: 477
  • Issued a FPN under travel regulations: 33

The City of Glasgow remains in Tier 4 of the current Scottish Government coronavirus lockdown restrictions, however could be reduced in level on December 11, pending a review into the spread of the virus in the area.
