Coroner opens inquest into death of Nottingham woman, 25, who had cervical cancer

An inquest into the death of a woman who died as a result of complications arising from cervical cancer treatment has been opened.

Paige Alexandra Hart was just 25 when she died at Nottingham City Hospital following treatment for the disease.

Assistant coroner Laurinda Bower opened the inquest virtually from Nottingham Council House on September 3.

She confirmed Ms Hart's age, date of death and the results of a post-mortem examination.

"We are in court today to open the inquest into the death of Paige Alexandra Hart," assistant coroner Bower said.

"[She] was born on August 1, 1994, and she died on April 24 2020 when she was 25.

"In terms of cause of death a post-mortem has been carried out and the provisional cause was fecal peritonitis.

"This was caused by bevacizumab induced colitis and that had been caused by treatment for metastatic cervical cancer."

Ms Hart's doctor confirmed her time of death as 3.40pm on April 24.

Bevacizumab is a medication which is used to treat a number of cancers, and the coroner outlined it was this which resulted in colitis, a severe long-term condition whereby the colon becomes inflamed.

The fecal peritonitis, the provisional cause of death, was a subsequent result of the colitis.

Assistant coroner Bower adjourned the inquest until September 25.

She added: "I express my sincere condolences to her friends and family."
