Coronavirus cases rise again in all areas in West of England according to Public Health England

All four areas in the West of England have recorded a rise in coronavirus cases over the last 24 hours.

According to figures released by Public Health England today (August 5), Bristol now has 1,348 lab-confirmed patients after increase of two in 24 hours.

Both Bath and North East Somerset and North Somerset recorded a further case, bringing their totals to 355 and 915 respectively.

South Gloucestershire reported two more patients have tested positive for the virus.

Nationally, 307,184 cases have been recorded following a daily rise of 892.

Covid deaths

Neither of Bristol's hospital trusts have recorded a coronavirus-related death since July 10.

Across the UK, there have now been 46,364 deaths following a daily increase of 65.

The latest data has been released on the same day a number of areas across the UK have reported local flare-ups.

Preston, in Lancashire,  is 'on the brink of lockdown' after a spike in patients.

Weekly statistics showed the number of new Covid-19 cases per 100,00 people went up from 15.5 to 33.8.

Other significant increases took place in:

  • Swindon, in Wiltshire, where the figure increased from 19.8 to 48.6

  • Melton in Leicestershire, where it went up from 15.5 to 33

  • Carlisle, in Cumbria, has also seen the number shoot up from 12.9 to 23.1
