Coronavirus: YouTuber uses 'glow powder' to show how quickly germs spread amid outbreak

This week, coronavirus cases around the UK have skyrocketed, leading to widespread panic about the spread of the virus.

Now, one YouTuber has used ‘glow powder’ to reveal just how quickly germs can spread.

Mark Rober, a former NASA scientist based in San Francisco, posted the video in the hopes of encouraging viewers to regularly wash their hands.

He said: “I've always thought if we could somehow just see the germs around us, everyone would be a lot more careful and we'd get sick way less.”

In the video, Mr Rober used a special power called Glo Germ that glows vividly under UV light.

He had a teacher apply the powder to her hands, before shaking the hands of three nine-year-old students.

Meanwhile, another student dipped their hands in the powder before heading into the school playground.

Amazingly, after just a few hours, several items in the classroom, including the sink, paper towel holder, walls and storage bin, were covered in the glow powder.

And while the students were asked to wash their hands, the powder was also found all over their faces and hands.

Based on the findings, Mr Rober is urging the public to be vigilant about hand washing.

He explained: “You can see how important it is to disinfect the things a sick person regularly touches.

"Even if you wash your hands really often, if you immediately pull out your phone, a lot of those germs just go right back on your hands."
