Coronavirus winter warning from NI respiratory doctor

A respiratory doctor at a Northern Ireland hospital has issued an important message to the public over coronavirus as we enter the winter months.

Dr Julia Courtney, Respiratory Consultant at the Ulster Hospital, said she understood the public were weary and tired of how the virus was affecting their lives, but urged the importance of taking precautions.

She added we all need to think about our social interactions to help us get through the winter months.

"I know that we are all weary of Covid and the impact it is having on our lives," she said.

"We are tired of being told what to do, but whether we like it or not Covid is still very much here and as you know is increasing. Vulnerable people are still very much at risk and we are beginning to feel the pressure again in our hospitals.

"So I would ask you to please follow the guidance of washing hands, wearing face masks and please think about social interactions, limit them and keep them as low risk as is possible to help us all get through this winter."
