Wetherspoons have confirmed today that their pubs will remain open but have announced extra precautions to prevent any further spread of the COVID-19 outbreak.
The chain currently has seven pubs in Edinburgh spread throughout the city, including the Standing Order and the Caley Picture House, that will all be following the same guidelines.
The capital’s hospitality industry has been in crisis this week as the latest government advice states for the public to avoid social gatherings, pubs, cafes and restaurants, leaving many businesses in the lurch.
In an announcement today they stated that “we will remain open, with additional precautions, until the government tells us otherwise.''
The latest precautions include customers moving from the bar area once their drinks have been ordered and that customers are asked to choose well spaced out and alternate tables.
All payments, where possible, are to be made by card, or ordering by the app is also encouraged.
The company is also increasing hygiene measures, with staff being educated on prevention and cleaning and the full sanitation of plates, cutlery and glassware after every use.
The latest Scottish Government figures show that Edinburgh and the Lothians now have 33 cases, with 227 now confirmed across Scotland as a whole.
