The Victorian premier, Daniel Andrews, has announced the end of a five-day snap lockdown described as a “short, sharp circuit breaker” to contain the outbreak connected to the Holiday Inn quarantine hotel. The new restrictions are fairly similar to what was in place before the snap lockdown started.
From 11.59pm on 17 February, the following will apply:
When can I leave my house?
No restriction on leaving your home.
How far can I travel from home?
No restriction on travel, aside from state border closures.
What are the rules for exercise?
No restriction on exercise.
What are the rules for wearing face masks?
People must wear a mask indoors or when unable to socially distance outdoors. Must be carried at all times.
Can I have visitors to my house?
Up to five within a 24 hour period from any number of households (infants under 12 months not included).
What about public gatherings?
Up to 20 people from any number of households (infants under 12 months not included).
What is happening with schools?
Schools will reopen.
What about the tennis?
An announcement on crowds returning to the tennis is expected later on 17 February. Tickets to tomorrow’s matches are on sale.
Can I dine in at a restaurant or cafe?
Yes, though they are subject to density requirements once 25 patrons are in attendance.
Are the shops open?
All shops are reopening, but certain businesses such as cinemas, zoos, galleries and beauty care services will operate with varying restrictions regarding mask wearing and density.
What about weddings, funerals and religious services?
No restrictions on number of attendees, but density and electronic record keeping requirements must be adhered to.
What about heading back to the office?
On-site office work is allowed for up to 50% of staff.
