Coronavirus victim's son blasts author Neil Gaiman for 11,000 mile trip to Scotland

The son of a Skye Covid-19 victim has blasted author Neil Gaiman for his 11,000-mile journey to spend lockdown on the island.

Gaiman, 59, best known for The Stardust and American Gods, faced a furious backlash after revealing he’d travelled from New Zealand to his home in Skye.

He has been spoken to by police over his actions.

Among his critics is John Gordon, whose dad John, 83, was one of the 10 residents known to have died with Covid-19 at the Home Farm care home on Skye.

John, an independent councillor, said: “Many people locally will not go on a drive during lockdown, even for a few miles to go on walks around Skye.

"So it’s astonishing that you can travel from the other end of the world during a worldwide pandemic and a worldwide lockdown.”

A statement from the Scottish police force confirmed the writer had been given "suitable advice".

Inspector Linda Allan said: "Officers have visited Neil Gaiman and spoken to him about his actions.

"He has been given suitable advice about essential travel and reminded about the current guidelines in Scotland."
