Coronavirus vaccine Scotland: List of people who will get jab in 'first phase' confirmed

The UK has become the first country in the world to approve the Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine, with Nicola Sturgeon describing the development as the "best news in a long time".

Britain has ordered 40 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine and around 10 million could arrive by the end of the year, which would be enough to protect five million people - as each person needs two jabs.

Nicola Sturgeon has said that she hopes the majority of those classed as vulnerable will have been vaccinated by the spring time and now the order of who is most likely to get the vaccine first in the UK has been revealed.

According to a list that was unveiled in a briefing by the UK's medicine regulator MHRA, the first phase will see residents in a care home for older adults and carers be among the first to be vaccinated - here's the list in full.

Who will get vaccinated first in the 'first phase'?

1. Residents in a care home for older adults and carers.

2. All those aged 80 and over, as well as frontline health and social care workers.

3. All those aged 75 and over.

4. All those aged 70 and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals.

5. All those aged 65 and over.

6. All those aged between 16 and 64 with underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk.

7. All those aged 60 and over.

8. All those aged 55 and over.

9 All those aged 50 and over.

Speaking about a potential vaccine on Tuesday,Scotland's First Minister said: "Vaccination over time will help us all to return to a more normal pattern of life.

"That means that a possible way out of the pandemic in Scotland now is in sight."
