Coronavirus vaccine centre staff "subjected to verbal abuse and unacceptable behaviour"

Staff working at one of Northern Ireland's coronavirus vaccine centres have been subjected to abusive language and behaviour, one Trust says.

The Southern Trust said "abuse towards" staff working in the vaccination centre" at Craigavon's South Lakes Leisure Centre "will not be tolerated" and that there is no excuse for such behaviour.

While most people attending to get their jab "are both respective and appreciative" they warned that a small number of people have been less than well behaved and warned that such attitudes could "result in the offender being denied access to the peer vaccinators and vaccination centre".

A statement read: "The Southern Trust Covid-19 Vaccination Centre aims to provide a high quality service and much needed Covid-19 vaccinations whilst treating all with respect, dignity and care.

"In return we expect and require all our staff and volunteers working in the vaccination centre to be treated with respect.

"The vast majority of people attending the vaccination centre are both respectful and appreciative; however, unfortunately there have been occasions when out staff have been subjected to verbal abuse and unacceptable behaviours.

"We will not tolerate abusive language and or unacceptable behaviours towards any member of staff working in the vaccination centre.

"Such behaviours may result in the offender being denied access to the peer vaccinators and vaccination centre and or further measures as appropriate."
