Coronavirus vaccinations to be rolled out into GP surgeries next week

Coronavirus vaccinations will be rolled out in GP surgeries across England next week, it has been confirmed.

Health secretary Matt Hancock confirmed the news during his Downing Street press conference on Thursday evening.

Care home vaccinations will take place ‘by Christmas’.

Sports stadiums and conference halls will be used as vaccination centres from next year.

He said: "That’s when most people can expect to get their jabs."

He said: "When the time comes, the NHS will get in touch with you, so you don’t need to come forward and get into contact with the NHS."

When the vaccinations begin to have an effect on rates of infection, the government can begin lifting restrictions, he added.

The vaccination will only protect patients seven days after the second dose.

Mr Hancock added: “We don’t yet know whether it will stop you from passing the disease onto other people."

That’s the reason everyone must act as if they are able to pass on the virus.
