Coronavirus vaccinations: Nicola Sturgeon admits 'lump in her throat' as first vaccine administered

Nicola Sturgeon has this morning admitted she had a 'lump in her throat' watching footage of the first covid-19 vaccination being administered in the UK.

The First Minister hailed the 'milestone moment', with people set to be vaccinated across the country today.

Around 65,000 doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine arrived in Scotland over the weekend, with Nicola Sturgeon hailing it as 'the light at the end of the tunnel'.

The double dose vaccine will first be given to health care workers tasked with administering the vaccinations.

Reacting to Sky News footage showing 90-year-old Margaret Keenan receiving the first covid-19 vaccine in England, the First Minister Tweeted: "Got a bit of a lump in the throat watching this. Feels like such a milestone moment after a tough year for everyone.

"The first vaccines in Scotland will be administered today too."

It's expected to be a significant day in Scotland's battle against the coronavirus crisis, as alongside the first vaccinations, Nicola Sturgeon will also give a review of how each local authority area is faring against covid-19 as part of an announcement in the Scottish Parliament this afternoon.

It's predicted all areas currently in level 4 lockdown will be moved down at least a tier, including Glasgow, which would see the re-opening of restaurants, shops and hairdressers in our city when the new rules come into force this Friday.
