People have been urged to support NHS staff - who are working tirelessly during the coronavirus outbreak - with a simple but powerful gesture.
Organisers of Clap for our Carers are asking everyone to show their appreciation to doctors, nursers, GPs, carers, emergency workers and pharmacists.
People have been encouraged to clap from their front doors, gardens, balconies and living rooms in a show of support at 8pm this evening (March 26).
The message has been shared widely on Twitter and reads: "During these unprecedented times they need to know that we are grateful.
"Please join us on 26th March at 8pm for a big applause (from front doors, garden, balcony, windows, living room) to show all nurses; doctors; gps and carers our appreciation for their ongoing hard work and fight against this virus.
"Please share this message, so we can make sure, the word spreads and reaches all to join!"
The #clapforourcarers has gone viral and people are being encouraged to film the event or live stream it to social media with the hashtag.
People have already taken to social media to say they will be supporting NHS staff through the nationwide clap at 8pm this evening.
The Green MP for Brighton Pavilion Caroline Lucas tweeted: "Let’s show our appreciation for our brilliant #NHS staff and all carers TONIGHT at 8pm - we owe them so much - please do share."
And the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan tweeted: "Join me at 8pm for a huge round of applause for our nurses, doctors and care workers doing incredible lifesaving work in these unprecedented times. They truly are the best of us. #clapforourcarers"
